The word “Señor” has multiple meanings. When I taught Spanish, my students called me “Señor Trovato,” meaning “Mr. Trovato.” Since the idea to open a cookie business came from my time as a public school teacher, it only seemed right to call it “Señor’s Cookies.”
The more important meaning of “Señor,” however, is used in the Spanish translation of the Bible. It means “Lord.” To say someone is “Lord” means that that person has authority over every detail of life, someone to whom I am held accountable for my behavior under that authority. According to the Bible and my own experience, the Lord is Jesus Christ. In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus spoke the following statement which affirmed His absolute Lordship over everything:
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
As a committed disciple of Jesus Christ, I have written the following statement that formally gives ownership of Señor’s Cookies to El Señor, the Lord:
Jesus Christ is the Owner of Señor’s Cookies.
As the owner, He has the authority to do anything He pleases with the business.
He may choose to prosper it as He sees fit, or choose to close it at any time.
Since Jesus is the owner of Señor’s Cookies, I am unconditionally subject to all His moral and business standards, as revealed in the Bible, and obedient to all His directives, as received through prayer and Godly counsel.
I commit myself to running His business to the best of my ability.
I will kneel before Him daily in unhurried fellowship before the day’s business activities.
I will operate at the highest possible level of integrity in my personal and business life, seeking to gain His approval and not the approval of others.
I will use whatever resources He gives into my hands to glorify Him, build up His church, and aid the poor and needy.
I will treat my employees, customers, and competitors according to the Golden Rule, always praying that they would come to know Jesus, the Owner of Señor’s Cookies, in a personal and life-changing way.
I, an employee of Jesus Christ, hereby give all my labors into His hand, believing that He will use Señor’s Cookies to build His kingdom on earth.
